Located in southeastern Ohio is the city of Fairfield, a beautiful community and residential suburb of Cincinnati. It is positioned in Butler County and is one of the largest cities therein. In 2016 the United States Census Bureau reported approximately 42,617 people were living in Fairfield. It is the 4th largest city in Butler County.
The history of Fairfield, Ohio dates back to late 1700s when Judge John Cleve Symmes, a Revolutionary War Colonel, and New Jersey Congressman, was told by Major Benjamin Stites that he located the “garden spot of any place that he had seen.” Symmes purchased approximately 330,000-acres of land after visiting the area and later President George Washington signed the land patent known as the Symmes Purchase. Soon after, many settlers moved to the area. Life was difficult at first and many residents fought with Native American Indian tribes. However, the European-American settlers eventually gained control of the area and named it Fairfield for its natural beauty.
